Taught my dog basic manners on a leash in a few days. Got rid of pulling, and barking at other dogs and people. After 2 weeks I was doing loose leash walking. I used leash corrections and a verbal "NO", and didn't resort to bribery. The people that take 3 months of training and still have a dog that can't walk on a leash, they need to add in some corrections of some kind because treats and praise only are clearly not cutting it.
I've seen this before too! Some of those poor dogs are hacking so hard from pulling that they end up throwing up.
Most of them only work in controlled situations and environments. Not real-world things.
Corrections is not abuse. A lot of people cringe when they hear "correction" and think of hitting or kicking a dog. A correction is anything a person does to decrease a behavior from happening (All Positive trainers ignore the bad and reward the good, they don't use corrections). It could be anything from a simple "No" or "Aht Aht!" or a leash pop, a snap of your fingers, or a tap in the neck with your fingers. It depends on the situation and the intensity. The correction should always be on the same level as the crime. For example, if your dog pulls on the leash, don't smack the damn dog. Give a leash pop and a firm "No". Nothing wrong with that!
Go take a look at any Facebook group that revolves around FF training and you’ll spot a post somewhere from an owner that just wants to get her dog to stop pulling on the leash. It’s been three months and she is still struggling like someone trying to make it in Hollywood. She is failing hard but people tell her to just be consistent and eventually she’ll get the desired results.
That my friends, is bullshit. If it takes me three months to teach a dog not to be a jerk on a leash then I need to pack it in and re-evaluate my life choices.

We are officially leaving the realm of competitive obedience now and instead going to discuss that dog at the park who was pulling his owner down the sidewalk barking at everything that moved. He’s currently in training with a force free trainer.
He can spin in fucking circles and target your hand and do motherfucking backflips but he can’t walk past another dog yet without losing his shit. I say YET because I have been informed it’s a process and takes months…years…decades…

You will notice that a lot of very successful FF trainers spending a lot of time controlling the environment. These fuckers are playing a giant game of dog chess and they’re good at it. They know exactly how to manipulate life to get the best response from their dogs without ever having to correct a single behavior.

If you’re one of these trainers who’s made it your mission to enlighten everyone else about how they’re screwing up dogs with corrections and need to start doing shit your way, you need to tone it the fuck down and step back. No one is listening to you…except other force free trainers. The rest of us have tuned you out and you’ve lost credibility the moment you uttered or typed the word “abuse.”
